HotUpDates

You can use HotDates to view dates in a calendar - drill down to month, or day. Create a scheduler or weekly planner. Print your calendar straight to a printer or create a customizable date picker. Basically if you have date related information, you need HotDates to enhance your program.

We've been quite busy improving HotDates over the last couple of months. Over the last month or two we've managed to include some neat features.

Some of these include: For more information:

Replicate Jumps Forward

Replicate provides an automatic, driver independent, file-version independent, mechanism for replicating the data in two or more databases.

Basically, Replicate logs your changes, adds and deletes and then using a transport manager of your choice, exports the changes to the other sites, where the changes, adds and deletes are imported to that data set. This all done completely automatically without your users having to do anything!

Replicate underwent some major restructuring over Christmas time and the early new year, in order to enable us to move forward. This meant that there were initially some teething problems with the releases over the first quarter of this year, but after spending much time soak testing, we've got to a place where we're moving ahead again. If you've been keeping up-to-date with the releases, but you're not on version 1.86, or if you're still on one of last year's versions (v1.62 or earlier) it would be a good idea to upgrade now.

Some of the latest features include: For more information:

And Great News: South American DevCon... here we come!

The 6th South American DevCon is taking place in May, and CapeSoft is proud to announce that Bruce Johnson will be attending. He will give his usually entertaining presentations on ABC and the 3 recently released drivers from SoftVelocity. I highly recommend both these topics, as Bruce has extensive experience with both these technologies. As usual, there will be some great CapeSoft product specials on offer for all attendees.

As always, the event has been organized by Clarion users, and for the first time will be including Clarion developers from Argentina and Brazil. Previous editions of this event had 100-130 developers, and we expect this number to grow significantly for this edition due to the presence of many Argentinean developers.

A Useful Tip To End Off With

In our last newsletter we mentioned an excellent site for free utilities. (http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm in case you missed it.) This month the tip is again about free stuff - but this time I'd like to point out some free book sites.

The first is called http://www.freetechbooks.com/.

This site is well laid out, looks good, and (not least) has links to some 150+ books spread across a whole range of computer related topics. It also has a good front page describing why free online books exist and so on. (I'll suppress the urge to reproduce that here...)

Another one is the O'Reilly Open Books Project http://www.oreilly.com/openbook/.

Again a collection of books (some overlap) with the addition of some out-of-print books, as well as computer books in German, French & Polish. (Not many, but some...)

If you can suppress the initial gag reflex, then it's quite a good list.

I could go on, but google provides a pretty good list: http://www.google.co.za/search?hl=en&q=free+computer+books&btnG=Search.

Well worth having a look during your next lunch-break, or when you feeling bored, and some light reading seems appropriate...

From the CapeSoft HeadQuarters this month, we wish you well.
